On Saturday 24th September 2016, the Xewkija Local Council will be signing its second town twinning with the Comune di Modica in Sicily.
To celebrate such event, the Local Council is organizing a three day programme of festivities which will commence this Friday 23rd September at 6.45pm with a thanksgiving mass in the Xewkija Rotunda, followed by a BBQ organized by Kumitat Zghazagh Brijuzi Xewkin at Gnien Blankas.
On Saturday 24th, the Xewkija Local Council Mayor Mr. Paul Azzopardi and the Comune di Modica Mayor Sign. Ignazio Abbate will sign the town twinning agreement in front of the Prekursur Band Club, which signing will be part of a musical programme organized by the same band club.
On Sunday 25th, together with representatives from the Comune the Modica, will attend to the BOV Gozo Football League match between Xewkija Tigers and Nadur Youngsters at 4pm.
On Monday 29th August our community celebrates the feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist and this year for the very first time the Local Council organized the two-day activity Fiori d'Argenta, with Monday being the second day of festivities.
On Monday Socjeta' Filarmonika Prekursur entertained those present with a band concert in the local square which was followed by a traditional ghana session. Towards the end of the event following the lighting of the traditional huggiega ta' San Gwann there was the cutting of the traditional Torta tal-Bajtar. The younger ones were also entertained with several games which were held in between the musical concert.

For another year Xewkija Local Council organized the two-day cultural event Fiori d'Argenta. This year, these two days were organized in the last days of August as part of the celebrations of the feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist.
On Saturday 27th August, Fr. Trevor Sultana organized the annual childrens' games in the Parish Square, which games saw the traditional relay races, cart races and three-legged races amongst others. Following these games, the Local Council, in collaboration with Mr. Joe Louis Xiberras organized the third edition of Giochi! - It's a Knockout, which games were won by the Ghaqda Armar Xewkija, who won the right to represent our village during the finals which are going to be held on Sunday 11th September.
Mayor Mr. Paul Azzopardi together with other council member attended this event.

Discarded food stuff know to be as organic waste will begin being collected in special bags in Gozo as from the 30th September as part of the Waste Management Scheme.
