Blood Donation on Sunday 22nd January

On Sunday 22nd January, the Malta National Blood Transfusion Service, is pleeding locals to donate blood which is an everyday need, especially in this cold weather. Those who wish to do so, are expected to present themselves at the Outpatients Department, in possession of an identification document between 8am and 1pm. We thank you in advance for your generosity. |
Annual General Meeting

In accordance with section 70 of the Local Councils Act (Act No. XV of 1993), an annual public meeting will be held on Friday, 27th January 2017 at Xewkija Local Council’s administrative office hall, at 4.00 p.m. All persons appearing in the Local Council’s Electoral Register for Xewkija are urged to attend. |
Xewkija sign town-twinning with Comune di Modica (Sicily)

A new town-twinning agreement signed by our village, this time with Sicilian village Modica, which agreement was signed on Saturday 24th September. Our local Mayor Mr. Paul Azzopardi and Modica's Mayor Mr. Ignazio Abbate signed the agreement between the two parties. More photos can be viewed by clicking on this link. |
Jum ix-Xewkija [Day 2]

On Sunday 27th November, the Local Council commemorated the second day of Jum ix-Xewkija through a variety of events which kicked off with the hearing of the liturgy with the presence of Malta's President H.O. Ms. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca. At the end of the liturgy various local organizations presented their donations in aid of Istrina 2016. Also the new organ was blessed Gozo Bishop Mgr. Mario Grech in the presence of local Archpriest Mgr. Daniel Xerri and Honorary Archpriest Mgr. Carmelo Mercieca. Following the mass, representatives of the Local Council laid flowers on the monument situated in Mgarr Road commemorating war victims. Eventually later in the morning, Xewkija Local Council in collaboration with Xewkija Tigers Youth Nursery organized the annual Jum ix-Xewkija Festival with several local teams (Gozitan and Maltese) participating in this event. Jum ix-Xewkija [Day 1]
On Sunday 26th November, Xewkija Local Council hosted the first part of the annual Jum ix-Xewkija festivities, during which, those who made it at Teatru Govanni could witness a band programme by our local village band (Banda Prekursur) and several other activities organized in collaboration with our local primary school. During the event, Ms. Maria Pia Saliba and Mr. Charles Borg were named winners of Premju Gieh ix-Xewkija and and Premju Hidmet iz-Zghazagh, respectively, for this year.
